Yes, Father’s Day is coming up and quickly. And dad deserves something special, don’t you think? Maybe a nice dinner out and a couple of beers at his favorite pub. Some time to hang out with the kids, all grown up. But you are short on cash because you just aren’t getting enough hours at work. You don’t want to tell your dad that, you want to take him out anyway and not have him worry about a thing.

By 1929 and the new Black Friday, when Wall Street went crazy, he had over a million already invested and with that he could buy more. He could have had a gold party and taken his family to Aruba to live out the rest of their lives.

He held onto his gold and during the depression became famous for investing in the projects sponsored by Hoover and Roosevelt. He had faith in the American people to be hardworking and determined. He privately backed the public works with his investment that easily could have been a party of gold, had he wished.

As an old man in the ‘50s after the war Meltzer was a millionaire. He had married off his two daughters and his son had taken to dealing in gold. Meltzer always said if you want fast money, there is no better way than to sell your gold. To this day the Meltzers of Yonkers, New York, remain in the gold business and occasionally have gold parties where they invite their friends and thanks to their sold gold eat quail eggs and caviar and sip cognac.

Obviously it never worked, but gold and alchemy are also associated with the fable of the Philosopher’s stone. While many take the practice of alchemy to refer to an allegory of wisdom and thought, alchemy was the forerunner of modern science.

In the 13th century all these Franciscans were like, hey let’s have a gold party. We’re smart, we can figure out how to change copper into gold. I mean, if the earth can do it, we can too! This guy Roger Bacon was like the head of all the gold parties. He thought that if he could purify substances and thus turn them to gold, he could apply a similar logic to the human soul, purifying it of all nastiness. But there was a lot of secrecy included in these experiments. Many practitioners became occultists.

Today, you don’t have to study magic to have a gold party. All you do is call your friends together and tell them you’re having a party for gold. Then you get cash. It’s kind of like modern alchemy, except it’s more reliable and less secretive.

Gold has something mystical about it. Maybe it’s the color. I mean nothing else looks like gold. Sure it’s rare, but so is platinum. But from far away platinum looks like silver. Only thing that looks like gold from a distance is fool’s gold. And I learned about that when I was eight and into geology.

Imagine living in the nineteenth century in the great American West. The sky is big and high and blue and the closest town is about fifty miles away and they don’t even have a church. Rumor has it there’s gold in California, but getting’ there’s half the struggle. If you could hitch up with a party it might be easier, but as it is you’ll need supplies. Once you get to that country though, with its hills and soft sunshine and the Pacific ocean it’ll be a giant gold party.

You’ll be floating down golden streams and friends will telegram you to ask how it is and you’ll send them back invitations to the gold party that you’re hosting. They’ll come from thousands of miles away to get the best deal to give you cash for your gold and you’ll be a rich man. Perhaps you’ll stay West and buy some property and start a family.

Gold is worth a lot of money. Even more so recently. Over the past ten years the value of gold has steadily increased from about $250 to more than $1500. It’s still trending upward. Talk about a good investment. Now is the time to sell, sell, sell, before the bubble bursts. You can host a gold party and make some serious dinero selling your antique gold you never wear any more.

Who knew that the jewelry you’ve collected over the years and don’t like any more would prove to be so valuable. Because while styles may come and go, gold doesn’t. After all, there’s only so much in the earth’s crust. And so if you have true 24k gold you could be setting yourself up for a windfall.

Perhaps it was a pretense to get funding from the royal Spanish court, but the fact is that the possibility of discovering El Dorado was so tempting, it led to the discovery of the Amazon river, so called because Francisco de Orellana and his search party were attacked by female warriors. The myth of a golden city began after a tribal chief named Muisca covered himself in gold dust and dove into Lake Titicaca. Although there was plenty of gold in the Muisca villages, it didn’t satisfy the Spanish, who had begun to hear stories of a golden city from captured natives.

What would those Spanish explorers have done if they had known about gold parties at home? The fact that people can bring pounds of gold from all over the city to one single gold party where all of it can be bought and traded for? Well they probably would have kept searching in vain for a city where the streets are lined with it. But I’m sure they would have been impressed by the multitudes of gold jewelry available at these gold parties.

Hosting a gold party sounds like a great idea. After all we all love gold, and we all love parties. It’s the best of both worlds.

You enter the apartment and hear loud tribal music, big drums banging. People are already dancing and waving gilt wrists and shaking their gold-clad ears in time to the music. You are welcomed onto the dance floor and you think how you wish you attended gold parties more frequently.

After you break a sweat, the dance party thins out as people rehydrate. Some are still dancing but there is business to attend to. You want to get rid of some of your mother’s old gold chains. You sit at a table where you drink punch and relax while beautiful women cluster around you handling your gold. They determine that it is worth much more than you would have thought, which pleases you. You agree to this trade of hundred dollar bills for your mother’s old jewelry, and ask one of these beautiful women if she wants to dance.
How could she resist! Maybe next time you will host a gold party and see her again.
